Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris

When Christian is about six years old, he runs away from home and finds himself in an enchanted forest. He encounters a troll named Edric who takes him in and raises him as his own because Christian refuses to go back. Many years later Christian finds himself looking through his telescope and watching Princess Marigold from across the river. After getting to know the princess via P-mail (Pegion mail) he decides to go across the river and get a job. The princess must marry in a few days! Will their friendship become love or will she marry a prince?
